A statement from Blake Stephenson MP on this evening's announcement from Amazon regarding the future of its Marston Gate site:
“I am aware of the announcement made by Amazon regarding the future of its Marston Gate site, and I know this news will be deeply disappointing for staff and their families across Mid Bedfordshire.
“Amazon have briefed me on their decision and I understand that affected employees are being offered relocation opportunities to their Northampton site. While this will provide some reassurance to a number of workers, it will understandably not be a viable option for everyone.
“That’s why I am seeking to arrange an urgent meeting with the relevant Minister to discuss the implications of this decision and to ensure that all possible support is made available to those impacted locally, and I will continue to support employees and their families in any way I can.
“If Amazon does ultimately leave the site, my focus will be firmly on the future, ensuring the land does not sit idle and that new businesses are brought in to invest, create jobs and deliver long-term economic opportunity for Mid Bedfordshire.
“Anybody in Mid Bedfordshire impacted by this decision can contact me by email on [email protected].”
