Mid Bedfordshire MP Blake Stephenson has welcomed long-awaited progress on step-free access at Flitwick train station after a targeted completion date was revealed.
Local campaigners have been fighting hard for many years to ensure accessibility for disabled passengers using Flitwick station – and local MP Blake has supported their campaign since his election last year.
He has raised in the House of Commons, and has continued to push both the Government and Network Rail to deliver step-free access as soon as possible.
Blake Stephenson MP has now been told by Network Rail that construction on the new footbridge and lifts is expected to be completed by spring 2027, according to current delivery plans.
Blake said: “Nobody in Mid Bedfordshire should be unable to access local rail services because of a disability or if they have heavy luggage or pushchairs so this is fantastic news for Flitwick, even if it has taken far too long.
“I also want to start by thanking local campaigners for all their hard work on this in recent years – I’m pleased to have played a part in supporting your campaign.
“But I am delighted that Network Rail have now given us a completion date to look forward to and I will continue to monitor progress and hold Network Rail and the Government to account.”
