Reports are coming in that the Labour Government is set to perform yet another u-turn, this time on Digital ID.
The suggestions are that Digital ID will now no longer be required as proof of somebody's right to work.
If true, this is of course a huge step forward. But it also shatters any illusion from the Government that Digital ID would have prevented illegal working.
It's been a complete mess from the start, but it's been fantastic to see MPs from all parties (including some Labour backbenchers) come together to fight against this assault on British freedom and liberty.
And thank you for everybody who told me your thoughts in my Digital ID survey. You made it clear you were overwhelmingly against this and I was proud to give your views a voice by raising it at Prime Minister's Questions a couple of months ago.
There will still be more to do even if this is confirmed. All mandatory aspects of the plans must be scrapped.
But for now, as with 12 other u-turns including Winter Fuel Payments and the Family Farm Tax (I’m losing count), it proves that by working together we can hold this Labour Government to account.
